The 3-Part System for Houston Humidity
Paint alone isn't enough. Surviving Houston's humidity requires a complete system:
1. Bonding Primer: Sherwin-Williams Extreme Bond
Extreme Bond primer creates a chemical and mechanical bond to the cabinet substrate that humidity cannot break. It adheres to previously finished surfaces (lacquer, polyurethane, thermofoil) without sanding to bare wood. This primer is the foundation that prevents delamination in humid conditions.
2. Topcoat: Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel
Two coats of Emerald Urethane applied via HVLP spray create a uniform 4-6 mil film thickness across every surface. The urethane-modified formula cures to a non-porous barrier that Houston's humidity simply cannot penetrate. Available in any Sherwin-Williams color, in satin or semi-gloss sheens.
3. Climate-Controlled Curing
This is where most Houston painters fail. Spraying cabinets in a garage at 85°F and 90% humidity prevents proper film formation. We spray and cure all doors in our climate-controlled shop at 72°F and 50-60% humidity — conditions that allow the urethane to cross-link fully. This controlled environment is why our finishes last 10-15 years while garage-sprayed finishes fail in 1-2.
Real Results in Houston Neighborhoods
We've refinished cabinets in some of Houston's most humid neighborhoods — homes near Buffalo Bayou in Rice Military, older homes in The Heights without modern vapor barriers, and waterfront properties in League City. Every project is backed by our 5-year written warranty against peeling, chipping, and adhesion failure — because we know our system works in Houston's worst humidity conditions.
